PC-DMIS 1D Constructed Width Feature

New to PC-DMIS 2020 R1 is the Constructed Width Feature. This new construction allows you to use 2 points as input features to construct a Feature of Size.

Welcome to the third part of my four-part series on "What's New in PC-DMIS 2020 R1." In this video, I'll talk about the new 1D width feature.

You can see my call-outs here. I have the width of two slots called out for position, but what's most important is there's an MMC modifier, which means these must be recognized as features of size. Up until 2020 R1, we could use two lines to construct a width, two planes to construct a width, so that's the 2D and 3D components. With 2020 R1, we can now use points, so this will be a 1D width construction.

I'll just go ahead and do a couple. Let's look at the slot on the top. I'll do two vector points. I'll just pick anywhere on the sidewall here. There's my point one and what I want to do is, I need to make sure that they are the same, in this case, X value. They need to be right in front of each other or on top of each other, whichever is applicable. There's point one. I'll go ahead and create that and then, I'll make point two over here, making sure that I edit my X value to 150 and create that.

Let's go ahead and do a width construction. Here's our constructed width dialogue. You can see, there's now the addition of the 1D option. Let's go ahead and pick point one and four. Set it to 1D and also, this has to be an inside width. We'll just keep the default name WIDTH4, and go ahead and create that. That is now a feature of size that is eligible for MMC. There we go. You can see the modifier applied, just a quicker way to do our width feature. We could have used lines, we could have use planes, but this is just a new option now in 2020 R1.
