CMMXYZ Tech Tip:

Smart Parameters allows you to preset the number of Quick Feature hits based on the feature size. This was introduced in PC-DMIS 2020 R1 and is available for Circles and Cylinders.

In this video, I wanted to talk about something called Smart Parameters. This was a setting that was introduced into Quick Features back in 2020 R1. I'll show you how it works. Let's just create a few quick features on circles. Hold down the Shift key, and I'll just click that one. You can see that's a preset number of hits for that circle and if I hit the Properties button, you can see that little green kind of a grid symbol there. That is what's known as smart parameter. That is number of hits are determined by the circle size and if I click on it, it will disable it, and it will go back to the default five hits. I'll do a few others and just to show you how that works. So, 18 for that one. Now I'll do Shift-click on the smaller one, and you can see that set to six. Those are software defaults, but these can also be edited by the user in Measurement Strategy Editor.

To open Measurement Strategy Editor, I'll click on the icon here and you can see the software defaults. These are the factory defaults. If I open the circle, scroll down, and you can see it there. So it is by default enabled. I could disable it if I want or I could edit the Smart Parameters. In other words, change the values. Let's do that just to show you how that works. So there's my settings, and I'll just click the green checkmark to apply. Now, what I'll do is I'll save this as a group because we cannot change the factory default settings. We can just add new ones. I will do a Save As. Give it a name. I'll just call it Smart, and OK.

Let's close this dialog and now, in the Measurement Strategy toolbar, I'll change the group to Smart. When I click or Shift-click these circles, it will use my settings. You can see 18 for that circle because it's in that category that I said to have 18 hits. I go to the smaller one that now has 6 hits, and the midsize one, it has 12 hits. That's a nice way to add some preset hits based on circle size. A nice new feature added in 2020 R1.

Just a quick tip. Hope you found it useful. Thanks for joining me and we'll see you next time.
